What exactly is coworking?

A coworking space (sometimes called “flex office” or “flex work space”) is one in which workers from different companies and backgrounds share a work space, allowing cost savings and convenience through the use of common infrastructure, (e.g. WiFi, utilities, reception services, refreshments, etc.) Coworking is ideal for independent contractors, entrepreneurs, people who travel frequently and work-at-home professionals. Coworking helps workers avoid isolation, limit distraction and can provide networking opportunities among members.

How does membership work?

Membership plans offer users full-time or part-time usage of the space, dependant on budget and need. Part-time memberships options allow for 2, 5, or 10 days of work per month. Full-time membership provides access each working day, while 24/7 members can access the space any time of the day or night they choose. Sterling Spaces coworking memberships start at just $49.00 per month.

What's included with my membership?

Every coworking member gets a choice of desk in our flex workspace each day (for the number of days per month included in your plan), fast & secure WiFi access, complimentary locally-sourced gourmet coffee & tea, filtered water, free car & bicycle parking, member portal & mobile app access, use of shared kitchen and other common spaces, and a 10% discount on all meeting room bookings.

Can I buy a day pass if I'm not sure I'm ready for a membership?

Absolutely. Day passes can be purchased at https://members.sterlingspaces.ca/signup

If I'm not a full-time member, do I have to schedule or call ahead to let you know when I'm coming in?

Nah, we wouldn’t make you go through all that. When you arrive for work each day and connect to the network, our system will automatically keep track of how many days you’ve used each month. You can also track the number of days you have left in the month by logging into the member portal.

What types of seating do you offer?

We have a selection of seating options available, including high-top cafe-style bench seating, adjustable-height individual work stations and collaboration-friendly work tables.

Do my guests also require a membership?

You can bring a guest with you at no cost for meetings. If they are working here for more than a couple of hours,  you can purchase a day pass for them through your member portal login.

Can I bring my pet with me?

As much as we love animals, Sterling Spaces is a pet-free environment.

Can I leave my things at your workspace?

Standard coworking memberships require that belongings are cleared from the coworking area at the end of each work day. However, members can add lockable cabinets and/or storage lockers to their memberships for as little as $25.00 per month +HST. Private office space is required for members looking to store larger belongings or furniture.

Can I access the space outside of regular business hours?

Our Full-Time 24/7 membership plan entitles members to unlimited access to the coworking space and any shared/common areas. Dedicated Desk and Private office members also enjoy 24/7 access.

How does billing work?

Memberships bill on a monthly basis, in advance. When you sign up, you will be charged for your first month’s membership fee, a services deposit (equal to one month’s membership) and applicable setup fees. Subsequent billings will include your monthly membership amount, plus any additional costs incurred in the previous period (meeting room bookings, printing, etc.)

NOTE: All memberships require 30-days cancellation notice. There is no proration of membership dues either.

Are there any long-term commitments?

We want to make your life as easy as possible, so there are no long-term commitments required with your coworking membership.  However, from time to time we may offer promotions that could require a term commitment.

What will I be charged at sign-up?

When you sign up, we will collect your first month’s membership fee in advance, a services deposit (equal to one month’s membership fee), applicable setup fees and HST where applicable.

Subsequent monthly invoices will include your membership amount, plus any additional costs incurred in the previous period (i.e. for meeting room bookings, printing, etc.), plus HST where applicable.

What is the services deposit for?

Similar to a security deposit, the services deposit is held on your account to cover any repairs or unpaid membership fees at the end of your membership. Provided your account is in good standing at the time of cancellation, the services deposit will be returned to you within 60 days of the cancellation date.

Can I use your address as my work or business address?

While the use of our mailing address is included with any private office memberships, coworking memberships require a Virtual Address add-on, starting at $25 per month.

Can I use your address on my Google My Business listing?

Based on Google’s current guidelines, some coworking memberships with a virtual address/virtual mailbox (at the same location) may meet the requirements for use in a Google My Business (GMB) listing. Read more on the subject in our blog.

Can I bring food or drinks into the coworking space?

All members are more than welcome to bring their lunch each day. Our shared kitchen/lunchroom facilities include a refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, microwave and hot water dispenser, plus dishware, drinking glasses, coffee/tea mugs and utensils for members to use.

In order to maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, we ask that coworking members use the lunchroom for their meals.
